LADY CAPTAIN’S DRIVE-IN

12TH NOVEMBER 2011

The theme for the new lady captain’s drive-in was the Wizard of Oz.

Valerie was driven down to the 1st tee in a buggy decorated with a giant rainbow. She then walked along a yellow brick road accompanied by a lion (her daughter Gillian), a tin-man (her son Neil) and a scarecrow (the out going gents captain Colin Johnson) to be met at the start by the wonderful wizard (her husband and new gents captain Ernie).

This is the first time in the history of the club that a husband and wife have been elected as captains in the same year. The theme of the Wizard of Oz was chosen as both Val & Ernie have for many years been members of local amateur operatic societies.

Before taking her drive the ladies joined in the chorus of ‘Won’t you come on over Valerie’.

Flags are placed by each lady when playing the 1st hole where they think the new Lady Captain’s Drive will go. The winner was Dee Ginnity. Nearest the pin on the 8th was won by Bev Gafaell, winner of the hidden holes was Ellie Teasdale Runner up on the day, on count back was Dee Ginnity and the winner was Lesley Dixon, 40 Ladies took part

We wish Valerie a wonderful and enjoyable year as Lady Captian.
